Overall Objectives

Offering an international research training programme in literary and cultural studies which is designed to ensure optimum conditions for doctoral candidates in pursuing their PhD, the IPP has proven a pillar of the comprehensive and sustained reform of graduate studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen.


Curriculum

The IPP offers a clearly structured and research-oriented three-year doctoral programme in literary and cultural studies with a strong international focus. Its curriculum is tailored to suit the needs of postgraduate students and facilitates the completion of the doctoral degree within three years, while at the same time ensuring the academic quality of the PhD.


Supervision and Mentoring

Extensive supervision and mentoring structures ensure that IPP members can always count on support and guidance in all matters relating to their PhD.


Conference Experience and Publishing Opportunities

As a sound academic profile and publication record are indispensible assets in today’s academic and non-academic job markets, the IPP actively supports its members in acquiring international conference and publishing experience.


Career Service

The GGK/GCSC Career Service offers guidance and advice on exploring the academic job market as well as on entering non-academic career paths.


Teaching Centre

The GCSC Teaching Centre offers systematic education in didactics at university level and helps PhD students to develop their own Teaching Portfolios.
